S'mores, stars and the debrief of the day — the house's own golden-hour view, no driving required. Decks go quiet at 10 PM; the theater, game room and sauna carry the night from there.
A brand-new luxury retreat inside Bryce Resort — half a mile from the lifts. Your house, the resort, and the whole Shenandoah Valley in one book: how everything works, where your whole crew can sit down together, and a perfect day for every kind of weather.
Short version first — every card is two lines plus one tap to the full detail.
Dooley Drive is part of the resort's own street grid — the lodge, lifts and golf are about half a mile away (est. 2–5 minutes by car), or a short stroll on quiet resort streets. Ski days, lake days, golf and bike-park days all start from your door — and kids 5 & under ski free with a ticketed adult.
Whole house for the family — not split motel rooms. Park days planned for you, and a hot tub & sauna to come home to. Honest drive: Thornton Gap est. 45–60 min.
Family & Parents Weekend, move-in, orientation, homecoming, football weekends & graduation — one brand-new house for the whole family (sleeps 10) instead of 3–4 Harrisonburg hotel rooms. Est. 50–65 min via Mt Jackson / I-81 — verify live routing.
A brand-new 2026 custom build by a Grade A builder — and this list is the whole point of the retreat.
A brand-new luxury retreat in 2026, custom-built by a Grade A builder — for guests who notice details.
Stone throughout the kitchen — beautiful, hard-wearing, and made for cooking for 10.
A microwave drawer (not a countertop box), modern fixtures & finishes, and a main-level espresso station.
Main-level great room + kitchen + dining for 10 together; bedrooms for real sleep; basement theater & speakeasy game room below.
Walk it in the 3D tour and the flow is obvious: arrive into the main level — great room, kitchen and dining together, so the cook is never exiled; four bedrooms for the group (sleeps 10); and a basement level built for evenings — sound-insulated theater, speakeasy game room and bar. Outside: fire pit, hot tub and cedar barrel sauna, plus a dedicated gear storage zone so mountain kit never takes over the living space. Finishes were chosen to look considered and to wear hard: quartz worktops, a microwave drawer, quality-look leather that withstands real use, terracotta accents, and warm low light in the theater and game room.
Walk every level before you arrive — great room, kitchen, bedrooms and the basement theater/game-room level, exactly as laid out.
Please note: Tour filmed before our design renovation — layout is exact; furnishings and finishes are being elevated by STR Cribs, so the finished home will look even better.
Fire pit first, then the ritual moves indoors at quiet hours.
S'mores, stars and the debrief of the day — the house's own golden-hour view, no driving required. Decks go quiet at 10 PM; the theater, game room and sauna carry the night from there.
Mini-golf area — on its way with the outdoor build-out. Planned, not yet built — we won't pretend it's open. Until then, Smiley's mini-golf in Basye is minutes away (see Eat & Drink).
Sauna → hot tub → stars by the fire pit. The evening this house was built around.
Welcome in. This house was built so you never have to hunt for an answer — and so the fun starts fast. Do these five things, in this order, and you're on holiday.
EV charging on site — our Emporia Pro Level 2 charger is here for you, included in your stay. Just park and plug in — no need to bring a charging cable. The charger (J1772) runs from a NEMA 14-50 outlet on the exterior wall. No hunting for a public charger before a Shenandoah day — charge overnight and head for Skyline Drive without the range maths.
Charging is included in your stay — no extra fee, no cable to pack.By design, nothing secret is ever printed, screenshotted or left in the binder. Your door code is personal to your stay, rotates every stay, and stops working at check-out. If you can't find your message, contact your host — don't ask a previous guest.
In your check-in message only. Never in print.
Network + password confirmed before arrival.
Bin location & collection day, exact parking, and who to call first for a house issue.
All confirmed in your check-in message.

The ritual guests love: sauna first, then the hot tub, then stars by the fire pit. Give the sauna its heat-up time while you shower and change — then rotate: heat, soak, cool night air, repeat.
Basement theater, built for a double feature after a ski or lake day. Sound-insulated — it's your after-10 PM living room.
Deep colours, low light, proper bar energy — the room that was re-themed on purpose, away from generic game-room beige. Run a tournament, keep a leaderboard on the fridge, loser does breakfast dishes.
Rectangular dining table, seats all 10 together — no kids' table exile. Main-level espresso station for slow mountain mornings; basement bar for the evening shift.
Details you'll notice: quartz countertops and a microwave drawer — the kitchen of a custom-built 2026 home, not a rental afterthought. See The House →
Four bedrooms, sleeps 10. There's a dedicated gear storage zone — boots and ski gear live there, not in the living areas, so the house stays calm while the mountain gear dries.
Coming in your check-in message: bed size per room, laundry location & detergent, boot dryers, and baby gear (if provided for your stay) and where it lives.EV charging on site — our Emporia Pro Level 2 charger is here for you, included in your stay. Bryce is a member-owned, four-season resort that is open to the public for skiing, golf, biking, the lake and dining — you pay per activity. And this retreat sits inside it: a vacation rental on Dooley Drive, part of Bryce Resort's own street grid, about half a mile from the lodge, lifts and golf. Activities are seasonal and weather-dependent: check bryceresort.com on the day. Bryce Resort: (540) 856-2121 · 1982 Fairway Dr, Basye.
From the front door to the lodge, lift base and golf clubhouse is about half a mile — a 2–5 minute drive through the resort's own streets. On foot it's a short stroll on quiet resort streets, or a 2–5 minute drive — drive it at night, in ski boots, or in snow. Lake Laura sits by the resort entrance, about 5 minutes by car (est.). Distances are estimates until we've measured them from the house on the ground — we'll print an exact figure then.

*Kids 5 & under ski free with a ticketed adult, per the resort's ski page.

8 trails, 5 lifts (including a high-speed quad), about 500 ft of vertical and full snowmaking, plus a terrain park. Night skiing Friday & Saturday evenings in season. Kids 5 & under ski free with a ticketed adult. Typical season runs mid-December to late March — check the resort day-of.
An 800-foot hill with three lanes in 90-minute sessions — the lowest-effort, highest-laugh winter hour at Bryce. Book tickets online ahead; riders must be 36″+ and age 4+. Great for mixed-age groups of 10.
Outdoor rink by the tubing hill — tubers can add skating with rentals. A proper winter-evening add-on before Copper Kettle or the sauna ritual back home.
The Horst Locher Snowsports School — lessons from first-timer up, and a racing programme through the season. Book via Bryce Resort, (540) 856-2121.
Gravity Logic-designed trails from beginner to expert, with rentals and lessons. The summer headline act at Bryce.
Par-71, 6,260-yard PGA-rated championship course designed by Ed Ault — right in the resort, the same short drive as the lifts.
$12 age 4+ day fee (Nov 1, 2026), paddle craft rentals around $20/hr, ~3-mile lakeside trail open year-round. Closed for winter; no lifeguard.
The slower side of the mountain — the resort rotates its seasonal extras, so check bryceresort.com for what's running during your stay.
Bryce hosts weddings year-round — ceremonies at the Shenandoah Center, on the mountaintop (reached by the quad lift) and by Lake Laura — and wedding parties book whole houses across the resort. If that's your weekend, this retreat is built for it: the whole party under one roof, dining for 10, the theater and game room for the night before, and the resort minutes away on the day.
American, at the Bryce lodge — the sit-down dinner in Basye worth planning for, if you book it. The resort's own wording is “RESERVATIONS REQUIRED,” and tables are held 90 minutes. For a group of 10, book before you arrive.
Hours as checked Nov 1, 2026 (seasonal): Wed–Fri 4–9 PM · Sat 11 AM–10 PM · Sun 11 AM–9 PM
Also at the resort: Shenandoah Center (winter cafeteria, closed until ski season), Carter's Hütte (outdoor bar & grill, slope hours), Bryce Landing Grill (sandwiches & burgers by the golf shop).
Bryce brings most people here — these fill the rest of the week. Distances are from Basye as published by area guides; drive times are estimates — check live routing.
Virginia's only cavern with elevator service — the easiest cave tour for little kids and grandparents.
Virginia's longest covered bridge still in use (204 ft, built 1892–94) — drive through it, picnic by the river. The classic Valley photo stop.
Where VMI cadets fought in 1864 — the Hall of Valor museum and walking trails make history tangible for school-age kids.
The East's largest caverns, plus the Car & Carriage Museum and heritage village — the rainy-day anchor trip.
Summer concerts under the stars at Orkney Springs — lawn seating, grandparents and kids together.
The forest borders Basye — trailheads, fishing and forest roads start essentially at the neighbourhood: free adventure between resort days.
Antique shops, farm stands and peak-October colour along the valley floor — an easy half-day wander from Mt Jackson.
One roof, one kitchen, a resort next door — the reunion math hotels can't match. Sleeps 10, dines 10.
Eastern Mennonite University (Harrisonburg, est. ~50–60 min), Bridgewater College (est. ~1 hr 5–20 min) and Shenandoah University (Winchester, est. ~55–70 min) draw visiting families on the same weekends.
Yes — a park day (or two) absolutely works from here. Basye is in the Valley, not inside the park — Thornton Gap est. 45–60 min. Plan it as an early-start day trip, come home to the house.
Let's be straight about the geography: this house is in Basye, in the Shenandoah Valley — not inside the park. The park entrances are a drive away. We don't hide that, and you don't need to apologise for it: that drive crosses the valley floor and climbs toward the Blue Ridge — it is scenic driving in its own right, and it is the trade that puts a second, completely different mountain — Bryce Resort — on your doorstep for every day you are not in the park. Treat the park as what it is from here: one or two planned, early-start day trips, with the house as the place you come home to.
Est. 45–60 min from the house. This is your Day 1 door: it drops you straight into the park's Central District — Marys Rock, Stony Man, Hawksbill and Big Meadows are all south of here on Skyline Drive. Estimates vary by source and traffic — verify with live routing on the day.
Est. 60–75 min from the house. The northern entrance and the start of Skyline Drive. Use it for a genuinely different second park day in the North District — Dickey Ridge and Fox Hollow — instead of repeating Day 1's summits.
One main hike, done well, beats three rushed ones. Pick one summit as your main hike, picnic on the Drive, and add Hawksbill only if the legs say yes. All stops and mileposts below are as listed by the National Park Service — check NPS for trail conditions before you go.
Two park days from here should not be the same day twice. Day 1 is summits and Skyline Drive. Day 2 changes district or changes theme to waterfalls — your call.
Run the one-day plan above exactly as written: enter at Thornton Gap (Mile 31.5), Marys Rock or Stony Man as the main hike, overlook picnic, Hawksbill if energy allows, home to the sauna / hot tub / theater ritual. Do not also try to do waterfalls today — they are Day 2's whole point.
Option A — North District (Front Royal, Mile 0 · est. 60–75 min): Start at the Dickey Ridge Visitor Center (Mile 4.6), then walk the Fox Hollow Trail right across the Drive — a 1.2-mile circuit, NPS-rated Easiest, about 45 minutes, past historic rock walls and the Fox family cemetery. It's a designated TRACK Trail for kids, and a completely different park story: the people who lived here before the park. Add northern overlooks at a slow pace and head home early. Pets are not allowed on Fox Hollow. NPS: Fox Hollow ↗
Option B — Deeper Central: waterfalls (Thornton Gap again, a new theme): Dark Hollow Falls (Mile 50.7) — 1.4-mile round trip to a 70-foot falls, the closest big waterfall to Skyline Drive; the descent is the easy half and the climb back earns it (no pets on this trail) — or the longer Rose River Falls loop from Fishers Gap (Mile 49.4): a 4-mile circuit past the 67-foot Rose River Falls, with an NPS-noted short add-on to Dark Hollow if you still have legs. Then, if timing fits, Luray Caverns on the return leg (see Day Trips — est. ~39 min from the house) turns the drive home into the last stop of the day, not dead time.

Staying nearer an entrance saves driving on park days. That's real, and we won't pretend otherwise. Here's what that extra drive buys you back — judge it on facts about this house and Basye, not on promises.
An entrance-town base puts you by one entrance — and mostly park + town. Basye trades roughly 20 extra minutes of driving on park days for a whole second resort on your doorstep: Bryce — skiing, mountain biking, golf and Lake Laura, a few minutes from the house — for the days you're not in the park. A mixed group never has to choose between a park trip and a resort trip. You booked both.
After a hiking day you come home to a private hot tub, cedar barrel sauna, sound-insulated theater and a speakeasy game room in a brand-new house — all 10 of you under one roof, at one table, instead of splitting the group across separate rooms near an entrance and ending the day at the bedroom door.
Skyline Drive in rain or low cloud can mean overlooks you can't see. From Basye, a rained-out park day is not a lost day: Shenandoah Caverns is est. ~20 min away, Bryce and Woodstock fill a grey day, and the house itself — game room, theater, sauna, cooking for 10 — was built for exactly that pivot. The itineraries below include three full rainy days for a reason.
The Thornton Gap run crosses the Shenandoah Valley and climbs to the Blue Ridge — then Skyline Drive, at 35 mph past overlook after overlook, is the park experience, with Skyland and Big Meadows as in-park service stops along your route. Guests who plan it as a scenic day out, with an early start and a picnic, consistently treat it as a highlight day — not a commute with a hike attached.
These are photographs of the actual destinations in this book — not lookalikes. If we couldn't source a real photo of a place, we left that card photo-free rather than fake it. Tap any photo to jump to its plan.

Make it a weekend everyone remembers — not a fly-in, fly-out hotel stop.
For Family / Parents Weekend, move-in, orientation, homecoming & football weekends, and graduation: one brand-new house for grandparents, parents and students together, instead of splitting across 3–4 Harrisonburg hotel rooms. Room to actually gather — dining for 10, theater, speakeasy game room and fire pit.
Drive: Basye → JMU, Harrisonburg is an estimate of roughly 50–65 minutes via Mt Jackson and I-81 — traffic on big JMU weekends varies, so verify with live routing on the day. No exact minute count is promised here.
Arrival evening: settle in, big dinner together — Copper Kettle (booked) or Burn Barrel in Basye, fire pit to finish.
Campus day: early start to Harrisonburg for your JMU event, tour or game; back home to sauna → hot tub → theater night.
Bonus day: don't just drive home — add a Shenandoah National Park day (Thornton Gap est. 45–60 min) or a Bryce Resort day (ski, lake, golf or bikes, minutes away).
You already know how you like to travel. Slide to how many days you have, pick a mood, a goal and a pace, tell us the weather — and we'll draft a no-repeat plan from the real days in this book. Here for Shenandoah National Park above all? Say so in the goal row and the park days lead the plan. Swap anything; it's a draft, not a schedule.
Pick “Shenandoah NP is my main goal” and the builder anchors your plan with the verified park days from the Shenandoah section above — Day 1 Thornton Gap / Central District, Day 2 North District or waterfalls, no repeat hikes — then fills the rest around them.
Prefer to browse instead? The full weather-by-weather Day 1 / 2 / 3 plans are right below — same days, no builder needed.
Stuck with three rainy days in a row? Or three blue-sky days? You won't repeat yourself. Tap the weather you're having, then Day 1, Day 2 or Day 3 — each day is different, fully sequenced, and built only from places in this book. Drive times are estimates — check live routing, and hours are seasonal — check before you go. Planning a Shenandoah National Park day? The Sunny and Mild lists include Skyline Drive park days — and the full one-day and two-day park plans live in the Shenandoah National Park section above.

Tip: Do them in order, or jump straight to Day 3 if you've already done 1 and 2. Days marked GREAT FOR KIDS are the ones younger guests talk about most.
Basye is small — a handful of spots by the resort entrance, then Mt Jackson and Woodstock for more. Plan dinner ahead for 10. Every card calls and navigates. Hours are seasonal — check before you go.
American, at the Bryce Resort lodge. The sit-down dinner to book nearby — seasonal specials, fireplace, après-ski / after-golf energy. Wed–Fri 4–9, Sat 11–10, Sun 11–9 (Nov 1, 2026).
1618 Orkney Grade. Burgers, birria tacos, wings, loaded fries, full bar, pool tables and live music. Casual, loud-in-a-good-way, easy for 10 — call ahead for a big group.
Same lot as the Burn Barrel. Detroit-style pizza, flatbreads and sandwiches alongside Harrisonburg-brewed Pale Fire beers on tap, plus a full bar. The Basye taproom — not the Harrisonburg original.
Orkney Grade, by the resort entrance. Soft-serve, mini-golf and gem mining. Walk-up, no reservations — the bribe that gets everyone through a hike.
5320 Main St, Mt Jackson. Pizza, pasta, subs, calzones — the reliable group takeout night, including gluten-free pizza noted by reviewers.
125 S Main St, Edinburg. Family-run Italian — lasagna, alfredo, NY-style pizza, tiramisu, house-baked bread. Dinner-focused hours; call or reserve for 10.
117 S Main St. Lunch & brunch are walk-in — no reservations taken. Dinner Thu–Sat is house-made pasta and a nicer menu, and reservations are strongly encouraged, especially for 10. Wine shop with 375+ bottles.

123 E Court St. Big brewpub in a renovated denim factory — burgers, fish tacos, giant Bavarian pretzel, kid menu, house sodas, patio. Built for a group of 10.
5300 Main St. The full supermarket run — do it on your way in if you can. Listed 7 AM–11 PM daily (check holidays).
1502 Orkney Grade. The only store for miles: deli, pizza, coffee, bagels, basics, cleaning supplies — and the gas pumps in Basye. Top-ups live here; the big shop is Food Lion.
5350 Main St, Mt Jackson. Mon–Fri 8:30–6, Sat 8:30–12:30, closed Sunday. No 24-hour pharmacy nearby — bring what you can't miss, and plan Saturday for anything urgent.
5301 Main St, Mt Jackson — right by Food Lion. Listed Mon–Fri 8–6, Sat 9–5; check Sunday availability before you rely on it.
759 S Main St, Woodstock. 25-bed critical access hospital with 24-hour emergency services. For a true emergency, call 911 first — give 149 Dooley Dr, Basye, VA 22810.

Basye has one small store and no 24-hour anything. Food Lion in Mt Jackson on your way in for the real shop, Community Store in Basye for milk, pizza and fuel, pharmacy before Sunday (Mt Jackson Drug is closed Sundays), and fill the car in Mt Jackson — fuel in Basye is just the Community Store pumps.
Honest framing: Basye sits in the Shenandoah Valley, near Shenandoah National Park — not in it. That's a feature: caverns, a lake and Skyline Drive are all inside an hour, in different directions.

Enter at Thornton Gap (est. 45–60 min) or Front Royal (est. 60–75 min) — both are estimates; sources differ, so check live routing on the day. Skyline Drive itself is 105 miles at 35 mph (~3 hrs end-to-end). NPS warns GPS can mislead in the park — follow entrance signs.

101 Cave Hill Rd, Luray. The region's biggest cavern, open daily. Admission as checked Nov 1, 2026: $36 adult / $18 child 6–12 — check current pricing before you go. Ticket includes the car museum and heritage village.

261 Caverns Rd, Quicksburg. Virginia's only cavern with elevator service — the easiest tour for strollers and anyone who'd rather skip cave stairs. The rainy-day hero of this book.
All confirmed operating on Nov 1, 2026 — and all seasonal. Check the website or Instagram before you go, and designate a driver. No fixed hours are printed here on purpose.
